Gippsland Water required relining work on Sedimentation Tank No. 1 and No. 2 at the Morwell Water Treatment Plant.
The tanks, approximately 35 years old, were suffering from a severely etched concrete surface as a result of the water turbidity. To extend the asset's life the tank's surface needed to be brought back to contour.
This project was unique due to the unusual shape of the tank (inverted cone) and the access issues. The shape prevented typical scaffolding, and resulted in the use of a boom lift and a crane box for the contractors to work out of. The other aspect of this work making it unique was that it was the first dry sprayed project using Xypex Megamix II.
Despite access issues, our client, Gippsland Water were extremely pleased with the end result, and themselves have documented the project for their future reference and information to be shared with their fellow colleagues in other water authorities.
